How does a BA sewer bypass pump work?

The engine driven sewage pumps from the BA series are fitted as standard with all the necessary features required for bypass jobs. Once the dry prime pump and piping are installed, all that’s left to do is turn the key in the dashboard to "auto."

Then, when the sewage level begins to rise the BA bypass pump automatically starts up. The vacuum assisted system quickly draws up the liquid until the main pump takes over. Once the level in the sewer line falls back down, the diesel engine comes to a stop again. This efficient operation keeps your fuel costs down and ensures that wear is kept to a minimum.

For mobile pumps there is an additional issue, through the changing levels of sewage water the pump has to process a lot of air. Sewage water problems

Handling sewage water has always been a challenge and its nature is constantly changing. There are also great differences between the sewage systems across countries and their respective levels of pollution. It is often the large solids and long-fibrous materials that place real demands on sewage pumps. In addition, we should not underestimate the irregular volume and flow of air within the system, making it difficult to make the right pump choice.

The KS screw impeller

This specially developed, closed KS screw impeller is a real waste warrior. The pump also runs vibration-free at high speeds. Air or gas bubbles in the volume flow are no longer a problem. Further, if sand is present, you will have much less wear because the liquid is no longer guided along the cone. Specific features of mobile sewage pumps

• The pump impeller. The design of the pump impeller is of critical importance and can greatly enhance the pump's reliability for sewage pumping. Besides ensuring the largest possible free passage, it is also important that the impeller is channel-shaped. The best solution to minimize the risk of blockages is a KS screw channel impeller. The sewage water then flows through the pump with minimal resistance.
• Large inspection covers. If the solids are larger than the free passage of the pump impeller, there is a risk of blockages in the pump. Cleaning a clogged centrifugal pump on site is an extremely unpleasant task. However, the presence of large inspection covers on the pump housing, on the check valve and float box offer a convenient solution. In this case the heavy suction and pressure hoses do not have to be disconnected when removing the blockage.
• Cutting grooves. Long fibrous material present in sewage water can build up over time behind or around the pump impeller. Such blockages can negatively affect the performance of the pump. To combat such problems, various parts of our sewage pumps, such as the seal plate, are fitted with cutting grooves as standard. When the pump impeller rotates these long-fibrous materials are shredded and exit the pump with the liquid.
• Suction side aerator. The difference is in the details. The suction hose can easily be aerated with a manual valve on the float box of the BA pump. With a clogged suction strainer at the bottom of the sewer, the vacuum in the centrifugal pump increases. This reduces the pumps capacity and increases the risk of cavitation and vibrations. At this point it becomes very difficult to lift and clean the clogged suction strainer on the job site. However, when the pump is out of operation it can help to simply open the manual valve. The liquid column in the suction hose then flows back into the sewer. There is a good chance that the solid materials around the suction strainer will be washed away and the pumpset can be restarted.
• Vacuum system Mobile sewage pumps are installed dry. Therefore, they must always draw in sewage water. A reliable vacuum system is an important part of a sewage pump and enables the pump to quickly draw in the waste water, even from a newly installed and dry condition. A vacuum diaphragm pump is the best choice for this application. These are not prone to air bubbles, gas formation and contamination in the fluid.
• Automatic level control. The volume of water to be processed can vary greatly during sewer diversion projects. Depending on precipitation and peak use of sanitary facilities, the pump must be able to handle both small and large volumes of water. With an automatic level control, the mobile sewage water pump automatically switches on or off using floats based on the rise and fall of liquid levels in the sewer. With electronically controlled diesel engines and electric pumps fitted with a frequency control we can take this one step further. Here the level is automatically controlled via the use of an optional pressure sensor which regulates the speed of the pumpset.
